ABOUT THE TEACHER

Thirty years ago I suffered from neck and back pain. Frequent visits to an Osteopath brought relief but the pain and discomfort always returned. A subsequent course of lessons in the Alexander Technique showed me that unconscious habits of tension were the underlying cause of my problem. The back pain improved after a few lessons and I began to see for myself how my mental and emotional reactions to stress resulted in a collapsed posture and loss of energy. My interest grew in the technique as a means of freeing myself from my habits. Eventually, I trained to become a teacher myself and have been teaching since 1991. It is always rewarding to guide people through this process and to see them change.

I teach people of all ages with many different needs. Some are suffering from pain, RSI, lack of confidence and others want to improve a skill – musicians, singers, athletes. I have developed a special interest in working with children and young people and teach in two schools.

My work with children and previous profession as an Occupational Therapist led me more recently to discover the Raviv method. This is a sensory-motor programme based on movement to develop and strengthen the neural pathways from the brain to the body which are vital to learning. The programme has been very successful in Israel in treating adults and children with dyspraxia, dyslexia and many other learning difficulties. It has also helped recovery of movement after stroke and brain damage. As the pathways are strengthened both movement and learning are facilitated.
